Poldi Mildner · German Broadcast Recordings 1933-1961 · 2CD

13.99

Poldi Mildner, acclaimed in two prior Meloclassic CD releases, emerged as a remarkable child prodigy, inaugurating her career with a debut performance at the age of twelve in her native Vienna. Her international career began in the 1930s, with performances across Europe, the United States, and later South America, culminating in her permanent relocation and citizenship in Argentina in 1942. Despite her early promise, Mildner remains relatively neglected in modern discourse. This collection pays tribute to her enduring artistry by offering a series of previously unreleased radio recordings, ranging from her radio debut for the German Kurzwellensender (KWS, shortwave transmitter) of the Reichs-Rundfunk-Gesellschaft (RRG) in Berlin in December 1933, to subsequent recordings made in Munich between 1950 and 1961. Much of the repertoire featured in this release has never appeared in any previous LP or CD release, offering a rare opportunity to discover her interpretations of works by Beethoven, Haydn, Schumann, Liszt, and Brahms for the first time and facilitating a more comprehensive assessment of her pianistic achievements.

(*) The two historical radio broadcasts produced for the German Kurzwellensender (KWS, shortwave transmitter) of the Reichs-Rundfunk-Gesellschaft (RRG) in 1938 are incomplete due to the loss of discs from each set after World War II. Specifically, the first disc (KWS 49909) of the Liszt Mephisto Waltz (KWS 49909-49911) and the last disc (KWS 49906) of the third movement of the Haydn Sonata (KWS 49903-49906) are missing. Despite this incompleteness, we have decided to publish these broadcasts for artistic reasons, as they represent the only surviving recordings of these works by Poldi Mildner.
