Walter Gieseking · 130th Anniversary Edition

119.90  159.90

This special edition commemorates the 130th anniversary of Walter Gieseking’s birth, celebrated in November 2025. Created as a lasting tribute, it brings together his artistic legacy in a carefully curated, high-quality presentation designed for collectors, and dedicated listeners.

Two variants are available, allowing you to choose the edition that best suits your interest:

Entire Edition

This exclusive edition combines the complete 29-CD and 1-DVD box set with a richly detailed 640-page English-language biography, “A Pianist’s Journey Through the 20th Century,” offering an in-depth perspective on Walter Gieseking’s life and artistic legacy. Illustrated with more than 190 images—most of them rare and previously unpublished—the book draws extensively on documents and photographs from the Gieseking family archive. The family’s generous access to letters, photographs, press materials, recordings, genealogical records, and other archival sources has significantly enhanced the scope and substance of the edition. The biography presents a comprehensive account of Gieseking’s life and career, addressing both his personal background and his professional achievements. Written for a general readership rather than academic specialists, it is designed to be accessible to non-native English speakers while maintaining clarity, depth, and factual accuracy. Full details of the book’s contents, A Pianist’s Journey Through the 20th Century, are provided here. Special thanks to: Freya Colassis, Jutta & Stefan Hajmássy.

CD Box Only

This option comprises the 29-CD and 1-DVD box set without the accompanying book, and is intended for listeners who wish to concentrate exclusively on the recordings. Distinguished by its exceptional scope, the collection brings together a substantial number of radio recordings that have never previously been released, alongside material earlier issued by other labels but now presented in significantly improved sound quality. In particular, the recordings made for the German Reich Broadcasting Corporation (Reichs-Rundfunk-Gesellschaft) between 1933 and 1945 have been carefully restored, addressing issues such as wow, flutter, and speed instability that remained unresolved in earlier transfers. The CDs are organized by radio station and recording date, with the majority originating from German broadcasts, and are complemented by interviews with Gieseking in French and German, his 1952 ABC Radio broadcasts from Australia, a small selection of private recordings from Rüdesheim am Rhein, and transcription discs from the family archive. The DVD contains the only surviving visual documentation of Gieseking playing works by Debussy and Ravel. A detailed list of the contents of the Walter-Gieseking-CD Box Edition is provided here. Special thanks to: Jutta & Stefan Hajmássy, Maurice Austin, Bernhard Jung.
