Joseph Szigeti · Late Recitals in France 1956-1958 ∙ 2CD

Joseph Szigeti‘s, performances consistently exhibited a rich and meticulously shaped sound, imparting a sense of pure delight. Although those unfamiliar with his style might have found his sharp and slightly uncertain tone unsettling, the later live recordings made in France captured the violinist’s lean and unadorned tone, allowing the music to shine through without being overwhelmed by excessive tonal embellishment. Furthermore, the refined piano artistry displayed by Horszowski in three Mozart Sonatas adds to the enjoyment of this double album.
